MIchelle Obama

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is a lawyer (graduate of Harvard law) and writer serving as our first African American First lady in the Oval office from 2009-2017.  During her time as first lady she focused most of her attention on social causes such as poverty, healthy living, and education. She and former president Barack Obama frequently volunteered at homeless shelters and soup kitchens and advocated the importance of education and volunteering. She was a staunch supporter of the organic food movement, making childhood obesity one of her top agenda items. In 2012, she announced a fitness program for kids as part of her Let’s Move Initiative, that reached over 12 million kids. Her work also transformed the school food environment through the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act/ which updated school nutrition standards. Recently publishing a memoir, Becoming, chronicling her journey of how a girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice. Our forever first lady. We are proud to celebrate Michelle Obama in the ICON collection.
